Because of concerns of liability:

I have been working on a system of name tags, so that:
1) It is more obvious who should be allowed to use the forge, people who have joined the Steam Show Association and signed the release form would either get a Green ID badge with hanger/clip,,, or a temporary ABERY stick-on badge outlined in blue (until a green badge could be made and laminated).
or
2) a red badge for whomever has not joined the Steam Show association, and signed the release form.

Dave has a pdf you can download above in this thread. Print that off and send in the payment. If not you can just bring it to our next meeting. I will have applications then. I did talk to the folks at the office for the Sunday Flea Market. They said they would get some forms so  you could stop by on Sundays and join.
I'm not sure they have them yet.

Just to clarify, the Steamshow Assoc form goes to the Steamshow Association, with their membership fee.... but the blacksmithing release form goes to the blacksmith group.

Will there be a liability release for teenagers in the future? I have some grandkids interested and would love to bring one along sometime. Or can they watch without paperwork?
I turned in my membership paper & money and holding on to the liability form until I see you on Sunday. Thanks

Long Private-Message sent.

The short answer is that the Steam Show Association welcomes the public and does not require the public to sign release forms to see the blacksmith shop.  The liability form and resultant ID badges are to identify who can work with the forge/anvil and any other equipment.... due to liability issues.   My humble suggestion is to provide yourself and grandchildren with good eye protection, and keep your grandchildren far enough back from the forge and anvil to be safe.

This weekend is the April Meeting. You can check the calendar of event on this forum for our meetings. The calendar is open for anyone anywhere to post a blacksmith event. Please use it.

This meeting will be a bit more organized.. Topics for discussion will be open to the following

Introductions:
  1. Name
  2. Special skills outside of the forge
  3. Something about yourself and what would like to accomplish with the group.

Business:
  1. Name of our group. Looking for suggestions.
  2. Shop organizations, layout and operation. I have several to present or you can bring interesting plans you have or have seen.
  3. Our shop needs and want list.
  4. Safety... I will present the circle of shame. It's a light hearted way to call attention to breaking cardinal rules. Should be fun.
  5. Shop clean up and maintenance. We need a few things moved....
  6. Our group is unique in the fact we will have public spectators at our meetings, as well as shows to demonstrate at through out the year. We will put together an outline of objectives.

Forge talk and work:
We are here to forge after all.
This will need to be organized so everyone has time to do and learn. I mentioned in the last meeting that we will want to monetize the operation so that we can meet the needs of materials and supplies. To do this I will be presenting projects that everyone can help create at the forge and at the same time build and improve personal skill sets. These projects will then be sold at our demonstration at shows. The goal is for each individual to be comfortable enough make the project and duplicated several times with a general uniformity.

I'll post a few hooks from the PABA  newsletter tomorrow. There will be something for everyone. I will also be posting the material needed. I will pickup steel from the local metal supply. I'll divide it into two foot sections and sale it accordingly to cover the cost of the steel.

From there we can discuss and or plan other projects members desire to make. Depending on the number attending we may need to add a few forges to our meetings as we go.

Much More....

Bring 1" by 1/4" by 24 or so inches if you have some. I will pick up some Friday from the supply house.

We meet tomorrow at 9 o'clock at the Williams grow blacksmith's shop. I think up one by quarter inch steel for those who don't have their own it's a dollar and 50 cents is linear foot. We smoke in order to forge to be a member of the Williams groves historical steam engine association. Will also be to sign a disclosure notice and in indemnification forms.

You also need to bring safety goggles or a face shield.

It's supposed to be a good weekend I hope everybody can make it and those you can't make it or look too far away I hope you have a chance to get out and do some forging this weekend.
