Hi there!
I need to make a little gate, 800 wide and 1000 high. It's for the top of stairs that go from a high deck to a lower deck. Its under comver and has a one meter high balustrade post on one side and a 2.4m high roof post on the other side.
I am thinking in having the hinge side a bit higher against the roof post, say 1200 with a curved top. Will also need a child proof lock that will have a leaver on top and a spring actioned pin. What I need is a bit of inspiration for the design.
My idea so far is to have vertical bars ( not very original) and the bottom half skipping one bar and having flat bar weaving between the bars ... not sure
All ideas are welcome.

First thing that comes to mind : if there is a child involved, make sure she/he cannot climb (horizontal bars in the middle for instance). In this case I believe vertical bars are in order. The originality of the gate could be found in the joinery between the vertical bars and their top support (horizontal bar) : pass throughs perhaps ?

The alternative to getting old is not interesting.

Yes, I have the basic requirements for the gate clear, I was hoping for some pictures of gates for some inspiration.

I've got a great book on architectural blacksmithing.  It has some good pics of old and modern work.  that's about all I got since I'm more of a bladesmith.  Don't need sharp pointy things on a gate.

Yes, a book or pinterest may be my next step. Pity this forum is so slow, I was hoping for an alternative to IFI and a break from the attitude. Oh well [smile]

All these forums are slow these days.  Probably due to FB.  The problem is it's next to impossible to research anything on FB.  I'll see if I can't find that book, it had some wonderful old and new world stuff.  Not sure where I hid it from myself.  lol.

Sharp, Pointy Things on Gates or Fencing aren't really a bad thing... just need to teach kids not to climb on the steel work, white picket fencing, some got hurt climbing on them too.

I notices that Forums in general over the last three or four years have declined in participation not just Blacksmithing Forums, in fact I was thinking there was an up swing do to the FIF Program.  As was stated in another thread, FB and other locations appear to be taking over... too bad !
A lot of people don't think, just post all kinds of stuff and think they are participating.
