I have to put in a little plug for my home forge. Great set up and a great bunch of guys and a few gals. I think there are 7 forge areas with 3 coal forges. It takes some effort for 3 guys to use one forge, timing is everything. They have 2 power hammers and a couple treadle hammers. Lots of tools, welders, torches and belt sanders.
It's all in the repair yard of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. We make stuff they need and demo at their events. They let us use the space and supply us with coal and scrap metal.

Cool deal! I have a friend who recently got promoted to yard master of one of the local Union Pacific yards but so far all they seem to employ around here are welders. They don't even have any more Blacksmith equipment.

Wow, I'm not sure how I missed this post. I love trains and the shop is perfect. Like your shop we're organizing a similar arangement here as well and yes we will serve a 1905 baldwin 0-6-0 and a GE 44 tonner. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the post.

Going to go to the forge today, I haven't been there for a while. Don't know what I'll get into, don't really have any plans. Just be good to see everyone and I'm taking some tool bit over for Iron In the Hat. I'll try to get some pics.

I made it to town and back without getting run over. I got a few pictures and beat on some metal, it was just hot.

The museum was giving train rides and they came in a couple times while I was there. They unhook the engine and turn it around on the turntable, go around the cars and hook back up for the trip back. Beautiful engine, I think it's the one they totally refitted, it's about like new.

The demo was making a ladle. Jack is one of the instructors and he took us through each step.

Looks like a USRA Mikado on the table. Different from the locomotive on top. The work space in the shop looks well equipped. Nice ladle.
