Finally got a handle on this small karambit made from a hay mower blade. The handle is from a bamboo cutting board. This my second one but the first with a handle. Fun little knife. Click image for larger version - Name: IMG_20160601_160420.jpg, Views: 24, Size: 1002.70 KB

Just make something!

Turned out neat.

Rule #10;  "I can make that" translates to; "I'm to cheap to buy it new."

I was just looking at some bamboo cutting boards I have and thought they might make good handles.

I like the blade.

Karambits seem to be gaining popularity recently.

thanks guys.

yeah metalmelt I got the cutting board cheap at something like TJmaxx. Its surprisingly light for a handle but I like working with it. I'm assuming that it should be stabilized already since its used in a wet environment, but I but a coat of tung oil on it anyway. I put some stain I had on it too

yeah I think it has to do with gaming. There's one used pretty effectively in a newer game or two, one is the newest Splinter Cell I think. That's why I made this one actually after I had played the game.  I made the blade last summer and its been on the back burner ever since.

I got a Spyderco Sharpmaker to sharpen it with because I couldn't really get into that recurved blade with anything I had. I've almost got the edge where I want it.

Interesting.  I've not built one of those before.

Is it just the video, or did you not forge a bevel to the blade, and just left that for the grinding?

I didn't forge the bevels on this one. I did it all stock removal. I figured it would hold its shape better. imho grinding is about as much fun to watch as Golf so I pretty much skimmed most of that too.

I've never seen one of these made with the bevels forged in; I'm tempted to try it.
