Kado

Greetings and hello from Georgia! (The state, not the country)

Glad to have found this forum filled with you fine folk. I'm a bit of an amateur smith, primarily knife forging, and soon I'll be deep in the craft. I'm well on my way to moving into a new house with a big backyard, and a perfect spot to build a shop. I also work with jewelry and chain maille as a bonus, btw.
So given that I'm extremely excited to put a shop together, I'd welcome and appreciate some advice from anyone willing to give it. I'll post a dedicated thread about it in the beginner's section, of course.
So as I said, I make knives primarily. However that's simply because they're what I know. With a dedicated shop, I'll be open to learning how to forge anything and everything.

So uh, that's me then. I'm looking forward to being here among more seasoned smiths!

Hello, Kado, and welcome to the family!
There's a topic here http://www.theironforgefire.com/post/where-do-you-start-as-a-new-blacksmith-7542599?pid=1292233735 that has some good info on where some people have given some good starting advice.

Howdy from Bama.  Looking forward to seeing your work.

Rule #10;  "I can make that" translates to; "I'm to cheap to buy it new."

Many thanks. Looking forward to showing my progress.
Bama huh? My folks have a farm out in Piedmont that I spent maaaaany summers at. Didn't know it at the time, but the farm life influenced the metal-worker in me heavily.

Thanks! Glad to be here.
Spent plenty of time in southern Tennessee. Lovely country out there. It's as you say; just a stone's throw away.
