Hank Rearden
Hello everyone,

It's been awhile since I gave the forum a tune up.
I'm looking for your ideas and suggestion. Please share what you like and what you would like to see removed. Anything is fair game.

I thinking of a new header and removing google ads. I might offer the ad space for groups or events. Those would be free. Commercial if any can pay a fair share. You know what I mean.

There is a chat room. and a few other under utilized features. links or categories?

Thanks

It's a fight against FB, but I think people are getting fed up with it.  These forums are far superior for information.

Rule #10;  "I can make that" translates to; "I'm to cheap to buy it new."

I agree, forums are superior to Facebook. A post on Facebook gets buried so quickly especially if it's popular. 2 weeks later if you want to reference back you'll never find it again.
But Facebook is superior as far as reaching out and connecting people as a short term network. Most people don't realize that this form allows you to take any post and send it to Facebook. So technically your post can reach a broad audience and get the best of both worlds and you can still reference back easily and find what's important as far as information goes.

Hi Mike, glad you shared your thoughts. I'm going to do updates and maybe trim out categories that are not relevant.
I'm thinking of a mentor thread.

You mean like a ask a Smith section that could be useful ......and there are categories that haven't had a post in years so it only makes sense to trim the fat

I know I'm late, but one thing I would like to see on topics is pages, a way to break down the amount of posts you can see at a time, like fifteen or twenty replies per page.

I downloaded a picture in my profile. It does not replace of the "Y".
The changes are interesting and the masthead picture is fine and appropriate.
The anvil that appears in my favorite sites for the forum is not appealing … to me.
And thank you for all the work.
The alternative to getting old is not interesting.

I don't see on the new software where the date and time are given, except after a thread is opened.

It took some time to figure out how to get around on here, but I got it now. I like the format. I thought I was in the wrong place 🙂

Hey thanks everybody for commenting. Scars how many replies do you think should be on the page. I believe that's only something I cannot change. I was hoping to make it something that everybody could adjust but I don't think that will happen. I plan on tweaking a little more this week. I don't know how many of you have tried your photo album  And your profile. If you have a photo album could you say something I like to check it out.

I started to read ll the postings but too many, it has been a month !
Two things I would change are:
1) A "Log-Off" Button on the upper line with Topics and Search, and the button should Log you Out, not go to another screen with a "yes" or "no" !
2) Something I can use because I log out every time, "A separate screen to login on, not the drop down (which is more up to date).   I can then click on one button on my computer and go directly to the Log On Screen.

Me again,
I noticed when I go to a list of postings, in the Topics, there isn't enough room allowed for all of the information !  I may not be setup correctly but I can't see all the info on the right !
Nor is there any dates, either, when it was posted or when the last posting was put up !
If the thread is too old, may to be worth posting unless you need info.

I read what you all say about improvements and i agree, however those are just peripheral cosmetic things that each may like or dislike. What is missing here to be blunt is activity and that is probably the reflection of numbers. How do you boost numbers? I don't know, I don't own a forum.  How to get traffic?

As for facebook, I think it is a good way to keep in touch with family and friends but it sucks for questions and answers like in a forum.
So my take is that this forum needs forumites ... or is it forum mates ? 🙂

Marc you said what I think we are all thinking I don't know if it's the weather keeping people out of their shops or if life's busy or maybe people are afraid to post something but we need some activity

I've been so busy doing things with blacksmithing that I'm not actually doing any blacksmithing.
The truth is I do wanna drive traffic to the forum.  But I would much prefer to have less quantity and work quality in the traffic and content posted.
I think all questions are good questions regardless of how many times they're asked. Everybody's at a different state learning.  With spring around the corner I hope to do a few simple videos get a lot more quality content for my part on to the forum.
I have been toolng up over the last 6 months and I really hope that I'm able to put to good use all of those tools here this summer.
Last March I organized a group and Williams Grove and in November at try to organize a leadership group so we had some organization. That whole. I was hampered by one member who finally left the group but really impeded the growth and took up all of the free time I had to do anything at the forge. So as far as that group goes there a bunch of really good guys that are there now and I'm gonna let them kind of delete the way. That will free me up actually hit things which is really what I want to do. And I do plan on going to the growed to do some of that hitting.
So with making this post longer I'll finish it by saying this summer I hope to cast a base for a tire roller I just picked up. I'm going to make projects that I find in the hammer's blow from ABANA.  Doing this to encourage beginners to follow suit I just do it.
