This I recently read where a smith used a brass wire brush to add color to his iron work and wondered what other metal would react similarly to the transfer of metal.

What he did was to get the iron hot then rub a brass wire brush over the surface of the hot metal. The heat transferred some of the brass on contact leaving trace brass on the metal after it cooled.

I'm interested in any techniques to change the appearance of metal work this way.
